CCTV revisited from February 2020

On Saturday 29th February the Neighbourhood Watch Group held an event for all Loftus residents on the theme of crime prevention. Representatives from companies including Camelot Security were also at the event.

One of several prevention measures available are CCTV cameras. Residents wishing to install a CCTV camera on their property should be aware of the need to apply for permission from Pobl before going ahead with installing a camera. Pobl is mindful of the need to ensure cameras are used appropriately.

If permission is given to install CCTV cameras they should be located at the side or back of properties and not on the front elevation, in order to ensure the garden village aesthetic is maintained.

Making Changes to your Home – Your requirement to apply for consent.

If your CCTV system captures images of people outside the boundary of your private domestic property – for example, from neighbours’ homes or gardens, shared spaces, or from public areas – then the GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) will apply to you. You will need to ensure your use of CCTV complies with these laws. If you do not comply with your data protection obligations you may be subject to appropriate regulatory action by the ICO, as well as potential legal action by affected individuals.
