Let’s Keep Loftus Looking Lovely

Eight years ago, Loftus Garden village was nothing more than the beginnings of a building site on a fantastic new venture. Newport’s first Garden Village would pave the way for a new approach to building homes, with sustainability and green infrastructure at its core. This new idea of surrounding residents with trees, shrubs and flowers, not only makes it a visually beautiful place to live but also a very attractive place for wildlife to set up home. This in turn increases biodiversity and creates a wonderful environment to bring up…

Learning at Loftus

Blog written by Frances (Head Gardener) James our apprentice gardener has been with us at Loftus now for six months and I’m pleased to say has settled into our team like part of the family. He loves his job and really appreciates this great opportunity that he has been given. He is keen to learn all he can, attending Pencoed college on a Friday each week and the rest of the time learning from on-the-job training delivered by Paul and myself. Part of his goal to become a qualified gardener…

Loftus lights up thanks to generous donation from contractor ADS

Loftus Garden Village is looking festive once again thanks to a kind donation of a Christmas tree from Pobl’s contractor, Andrew D’Auria Solutions (ADS).   Jason Dymock, of the Loftus Garden Village Neighbourhood Watch Group, approached ADS to ask if they would be willing to offer financial support towards the purchase of the tree, and they generously agreed to cover the full cost, including delivery.   In true partnership spirit, the Loftus gardening team then erected the tree on site, and Pobl agreed to cover the cost of the electricity to keep…

Once again, credit where credit’s due to the fantastic organisation of community events at Loftus Garden Village. The Platinum Jubilee being the latest excuse to get everyone together and party. Jason and the Neighbourhood Watch team put on a fabulous event for all the family in Loftus Square on the bank holiday Friday and Julie Murphy did the same for the co-op street on Saturday the following week. Community spirit was awesome, the pictures speak for themselves. Even Her Majesty herself made an appearance!

Please be aware of new Bollards

You might have noticed that we have two wooden bollards on the street corners in Loftus square. These were installed a year or so back as a trail to prevent vehicles carelessly running over the corners of the street beds and damaging plants. They have proven to be a success, so over the next few weeks, we will be putting in more where they are needed. They will have reflectors on them and be positioned in the beds so there will be no excuse for running into them, other than…

Creating a Dog Play Park: A Furtastic Idea?

Many of you will be aware that Loftus Phase 2 is on the horizon.
